Material for such service should be fully stress - relieved at 1650 Degree F / 1 hour or 1450 Degree F / 4 hour (900 Degree C / 1 hour or 790 degree C / 4 hour) prior to use, and operating stresses should be kept to a minimum.

The tendency of INCONEL 825 coils to crack trans- granularly in chloride solutions decreases as the nickel content of the alloy is increased. The colour varies from orange - yellow for the nitride to grey - lavender for the carbide. INCONEL 825 sheets offered by Mahabali Steel with a minimum nickel content of 72 %, is virtually immune to chloride - ion stress corrosion cracking.

Titanium nitrides and carbides are visible in polished micro - specimens at magnifications, which appear as small, randomly dispersed, angular - shaped inclusions. INCONEL ALLOY 825 plates are subject to stress - corrosion cracking in high - temperature, high - strength caustic alkalis.

Precipitation occurs both at the grain boundaries and in the matrix, where stress corrosion cracking may occur also in the presence of mercury at elevated temperatures. Alloy 825 sheets offered by Mahabali Steel are stable at all temperatures below the melting point and are unaffected by heat treatment.
